Bonan Li
By experimenting with draping, patterns and textiles, this project explores the concept of “Jian”, which can also refer to the artistic interpretation of an empty space in a physical sensorial experience, and develops a prototype of a modelling method for “Yin & Yang Patterning”, a cutting method that is of minimal waste. "For the look we used organza, denim and a polyester netting, all dyed using the shibori technique". The combination of materials, and the curved, fluid lines that they generate, are key to this outfit.

This technique was inspired by Cristóbal Balenciaga’s unique approach to construction that explores the “negative” space between body and garment. “This design is a personal and intimate journey that expresses my self-awareness and also celebrates the minimalist and architectural aesthetic inherent in the work of Cristóbal Balenciaga”.
