ADVANCED COURSE IN TAILORING HAUTE COUTURE TECHNIQUES
With the intention of promoting technical transmission aimed not only at highlighting the immaterial aspects of Cristóbal Balenciaga's know-how, but also at making this knowledge available to a new generation of fashion professionals, the museum presents this advanced course in the specific methods used in the couturier's tailoring ateliers.
The course – running for five days – will include demonstrations of his sewing and pressing techniques. Furthermore, to ensure that the participants achieve practical skills in these techniques, they will produce half jacket forming part of a suit made at the Balenciaga Maison in Paris. Specifically, a double-breasted blue and white wool twill model with a “quadrillé” pattern dating from February 1966 and belonging to the museum collection, an excellent example of the designer’s rigorous technical
command.
