Presentation of the book “Balenciaga-Kublin. A Fashion record”
The Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum is set to host the presentation of “Balenciaga-Kublin. A Fashion record”, a book which documents the short but prolific artistic career of fashion photographer and filmmaker Tom Kublin, as well as his creative collaboration with Cristóbal Balenciaga. The book, recently published by Thames & Hudson, is the result of research undertaken prior to the exhibition “Tom Kublin for Balenciaga. An unusual collaboration”, held at the museum in 2022.
The book, recently published by Thames & Hudson, is the result of research undertaken prior to the exhibition “Tom Kublin for Balenciaga. An unusual collaboration”, held at the museum in 2022.
The new book features over 140 of Kublin’s photographs and film stills that capture Balenciaga’s golden age of haute couture in the 1950s and 1960s. It showcases everything from the impeccable elegance of the photo shoots for the maison’s collections to the striking covers and groundbreaking editorials of the fashion magazines of the time. It also includes contributions by the authors, Maria Kublin, who wrote the foreword, and Ana Balda, whose work traces the photographer’s career, describing his role in Europe’s artistic avant-garde and his working relationship with Cristóbal Balenciaga.
The presentation will be led by Ana Balda, who co-authored the book with Maria Kublin, and who will be in conversation with the director of the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, Miren Vives. Ana Balda is an associate professor at the Faculty of Communication of the University of Navarra. She has curated several exhibitions on Cristóbal Balenciaga and has had a number of articles published in specialized academic journals.
